Innovation Health Hub combines inspiration with medical innovation

Through the close networking of experts from research and industry and the promotion of innovative ideas and solutions, the hub is a promising starting point for the development of new technologies and products that can improve people's health.

"The Health Innovation Hub will make a significant contribution to promoting innovative solutions in the healthcare sector and further strengthen Switzerland as a leading location for medical innovation.", emphasized Beat Tinner, member of the St. Gallen cantonal government, in his welcoming speech. The Mayor of St. Gallen, Maria Pappa, also expressed her enthusiasm: " I am proud that we have created a place here in St. Gallen that promotes interdisciplinary collaboration between research, industry and healthcare. In this way, today's complex challenges in the healthcare sector can be mastered together in the interests of people.

The Switzerland Innovation Park East is part of the Switzerland Innovation Network, which comprises six innovation parks in Switzerland. The network promotes cooperation between research and companies and enables knowledge and research results to be used for the development of new products and services.

The two speakers, sports physician Patrik Noack and doctor and entrepreneur Tobias Gantner, provided inspiring insights into the world of health innovations in their presentations. Gantner emphasized the central role that digital technologies and data analysis play in the fight against diseases: “Data can heal.”

The cardio belt developed at Empa was presented as a special highlight. Thanks to plasma-coated embroidered electrodes and sensors made of optical polymer fibers, the flexible textile belt enables precise and comfortable long-term ECG measurements, monitoring of sleep apnea, early diagnosis of dementia and performance checks in sports.

Empa researcher Simon Annaheim from the Biomimetic Membranes and Textiles Laboratory summarizes the importance of the hub as follows:
